With over a decade of experience in the field, Toni Cary is a Community nursing assistant and care worker, taking care of aged and disabled clients as well as being part of an on call Care Team at a Retirement Village in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales with over 100 residents.
She has studied Psychology and Social Science, majoring in Counselling, holds a Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling and a Certificate 3 in Aged Care.
She believes that the role of Community Care worker is a professional one; a form of nursing that should be acknowledged as such and remunerated accordingly.
Toni challenges the general public’s perception of the “carer” as being an unskilled worker, arguing that the role of a Community care worker is in fact multi-skilled and complex.
A Community care worker in 2009 and beyond is fully trained not unskilled and brings to their client a broad expanse of life experience as well as other educational accomplishments as can be seen by Toni’s successful and much enjoyed chosen career as a community care worker. |
